The R&D grant provides the following types and levels of support:

• Micro projects - Small scale projects lasting up to 12 months for enterprises having less than 10 employees. Grants of 50% of project costs, maximum grant £20,000.
• Research - To produce new scientific or technical knowledge, projects lasting 6-18 months for businesses having less than 50 employees. Grants of 60% of project costs, minimum grant £20,000, maximum grant £75,000.
• Development projects - To develop pre-production product or process prototype, projects lasting 6-36 months for businesses having less than 250 employees. Grants of 35% of project costs, minimum grant £20,000, maximum grant £200,000.
• Exceptional development projects - As Development Projects with justifiably higher costs and which are of strategic importance to the UK. Maximum grant £500,000, intervention rate negotiable up to a maximum of 35% of project costs.
